Want your life back?

Your HELP program is a customized path to getting your life back.

"My life before participating in HELP was a see-saw. One moment pain emotions and stress were up and the next they were down. I was having a difficult time feeling "comfortable in my own skin” and therefore was uncomfortable around others as well. With few tools and no real plan to manage my fluctuating pain levels, I felt a lack of confidence in myself. I was often unhappy, looking back at what I used to do rather than at the present and where I go from here.” – SH, 2011

"HELP gave me the tools and skills to manage not only my chronic pain, but the social, emotional, and behavioral issues that come with it. I have more confidence in myself in dealing with pain flares, and those associated issues. I am happier, easier to be around, and able to reach out to others. Both my friends and family have noticed the positive changes.” – SH, 2011

How is HELP different? Patients with chronic pain have often tried multiple cures only to find these treatments unsuccessful. Traditional chronic pain treatments focus exclusively on trying to eliminate symptoms by curing an underlying disease. This is a helpful approach when a cure is available, but falls short when incurable chronic pain occurs.

We start by listening. The journey towards daily pain suffering often starts with a simple injury and spirals down a path of continued pain, imperfect healing, medical complications and failures, loss of job, loss of financial support, loss of friends, and depression. Together we examine what you have lost and what you want to get back in your life. We then help you reclaim your life through a program of integrated medication optimization, physical rehabilitation, and pain counseling sessions.

How it works:

  • Your doctor requests a HELP Evaluation at one of our HELP Centers
  • You meet our team of pain management experts to discuss your goals and design your HELP program
  • You are immersed into a HELP treatment environment for 1-6 weeks
  • You learn skills that will help you manage pain, improve fitness, and create a path to improve your quality of life.
  • As you return to your life and work, your personal HELP coach provides continued support through weekly phone calls.

Need to get back to work?

Your HELP program is a customized path to getting your life back.

"During my life prior to HELP it was very hard to know what kind of day it would be. There would be days of excessive pain and asking if I can even get out of bed or not. I was not being a part of my family, I was confined to my bed, and would work only if I had to. I tried to keep my business a float, but was not able to work various days.” – TS, 2011

Is pain hurting your family too?

Your HELP program is a customized path to getting your life back.

"I eventually found myself isolated to my bedroom, and TV was my life. I could tell time by what I viewed. My pets became "paper trained” because I was too lazy to let them out in the backyard. I accepted the few phone calls I received, but made very few going out.” – SE, 2011

"[HELP] H.E.L.Ped me to share and realize that I was not the only one going through all this pain, and that I wasn’t the only one who lost everything. HELP also taught me how to deal with my pain, that it’s real and is not the end of my life. I do matter, I am somebody, and I can do this. My kids, grandkids, and wife thank you. I thank you.” – RG, 2011

Have a doctor but need more help?

HELP Detox programs do more than just reduce your reliance on medications - you’ll learn real tools to manage your pain.

"Before HELP my life was uneventful, and I had continued isolation because I can’t drive. I utilized deep breathing and an imagery DVD provided by my doctor, but HELP increased my exercise tolerance and knowledge base and provided excellent resources for personalized therapy, communication, socialization, and acceptance.” – TG, 2011

Over the last 20 years there has been a dramatic increase in the use of opioid medications for the treatment of pain in the U.S., but the consequences of this increase have only emerged in the past few years. Physicians used to believe opioids were safe in a range of doses, however, there is now rising concern that the escalation of opioids has been correlated with increased risk of multiple problems, including death.

For people with chronic pain, the word "detox” brings to mind a picture of even more pain and suffering:

  • Anxiety about managing pain on reduced medications
  • Fear that you may be addicted
  • Uncertainty about how to change

With HELP Detox you can overcome your fear, reduce your reliance on opioid medications, and find new ways to manage your pain so you can return to an active, vibrant life.

How it works:

  • Your doctor requests a HELP Evaluation at one of our HELP Centers
  • you meet our team of pain management experts to discuss your goals and design your HELP Detox program, which may include: inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment, addiction services, and/or functional restoration treatment.
  • You are immersed in to a HELP treatment environment for 7-10+ days to reduce your medications and learn pain management tools.
  • We evaluate your experience day-by-day to monitor your progress and make sure your pain is controlled and activity level is increased.

Want to stop using pain medications?

HELP Detox programs do more than just reduce your reliance on medications - you’ll learn real tools to manage your pain.

"I had increased my medications, having to take an extra ½ of medication and taking them closer together. I would also take a variety of over-the-counter meds to try to help with the pain (ibuprofen and aspirin), and used heating and microwave pads as often as possible. I had a very difficult time sitting or standing in one place, and had trouble sleeping as I would always wake up around 5am and would be unable to go back to sleep. Because of all the medication, I was often drowsy and would fall asleep when I sat down, then would feel "spacey” when I got up.” – K, 2011

"HELP taught me skills to manage pain flares as well as optimized my meds. I cut my meds by more than half without increasing my pain level so my activity level is at an 8 year high. I no longer just sit or lay down with my pain. I am now in control of my life again. I do what I want and not what my pain dictates!” –MG, 2011

My doctor can't prescribe my medications?

HELP has medication monitoring programs to educate patients about safe medication use and monitor compliance.

"My medications are helping me stay active, but I’m worried about the risks to me and my family."

Little pills can be a big problem. Safe use of pain medication requires risk screening and individualized plans with monitoring tools many doctors are unfamiliar with.

HELP Analgesic Adherence uses compliance tools, such as activity monitoring, goal setting, urine drug testing, pill counting, risk assessment, monitoring and analysis, to monitor medication and reduce risk.
